The issue is the false narrative of the country needing any sort of inflation to grow... This country's economy grew just fine before 1970, and the inflation rate was basically zero.
Since then, people can no longer afford things due to the increase in costs to "keep up with inflation" and the lack of commensurate growth in their salaries...
How do we fix it? Rip it all up and reset?? I don't know... But not having untaxed Billionaires and Trillionaires taking from the system while giving nothing back might be a start... Schools could be funded.. Home and farm prices could maybe go down... Dunno... There just has to be a way to make life equitable and fair, and actually be able to live in this nation...

How do we solve a problem like a world where having children is becoming too hard and too expensive? The answer is: There's no solution in the horizon. What kind of planet are we leaving to the future generations, if there are any?
A world depleted of resources, of basic rights... It's Mad Max for the poor and Logan's Run for the rich all over again, with the added attribute of having technofeudal lords who give us scraps of crap to eat and a hard spot on the ground to sleep on if we're not basically human beasts of burden. People still believe in trickle-down economics when they don't see that corporations have made their economics leakproof.
So when no more money is left because corporations hoarded it all like truly evil dragons, what will happen? Will production cease? Will companies inevitably close? Will machines take over like in The Matrix and deem us as nothing better than an ape is to us?
If families with children struggle nowadays (and childfree families do in a different way, thinking of who'll take over when they're old or dead), the future doesn't look any better.
It just makes things bleaker, but if we don't talk about it, make people think about it, then nothing will change.
This is why your comic this week is real food for thought; we need to stop ignoring the ugly parts of our impending future and DO SOMETHING.

With less than 200 acres of the original 300 generational family land (in number 6) it looks like there won’t be an inheritance to give. It’s sad but there’s an emotional word that is more than ‘sad’ and I can’t articulate it. I think you’ve come quite close here! Keep up the great writing! I look forward to reading more and more!!

This was a fun read (hearing about your nephew) and simultaneously a sad read (thinking about his future). It makes me wonder if the right answer is in conscientious individuals making choices that don't always align with the price incentives of the market. Can individuals cause a collective change by breaking from market logic? I'm curious what you think about this...
I was able to give a 40 acre farm away, and provide some funding and a full time job to the recipient.
Because I've been fortunate. And this way I get something more valuable to me than money.
